Romance, sweet tea, and Southern sunshine—these books bring the charm.
As a southern girly myself I feel a special sort of nostalgia for a Miley Stewart summer, its not just the summer of my childhood tv show but the summers of my childhood! Running through tall grass in the back field, exploring the creek barefoot, climbing trees, and long drives down windy roads with warm summer air and our favorite mix CD blasting.
These five books capture that nostalgic, charming, Southern-girl energy, just a little bit more grown up... Whether you're dreaming of long days on the ranch, summer romance, or heartfelt family moments under the stars, these reads will make you want to throw on your boots, grab a sweet tea, and take a back road.

Why it’s giving Miley: I mean hello?? Return to her hometown, throwing a concert to "save the farm"?? Someone say "helloooo New York!" because this one will take you home <3
Sing me Home to Carolina by Joy Callaway
Tagline: A small-town Southern romance on a barn-raising farm with family love, hometown roots, and the pull of first loves.
Hattie returns to her small town in Mountain View, S.C., to save her family's struggling farm. Along the way, she reconnects with her ex (an MLB player) and starts planning a barn concert.
It's an emotional, Southern-authentic love triangle set against horses, heritage, and heartfelt community. One review calls it “Schitt’s Creek meets Hart of Dixie” (People 2024)
"Fans of small-town romance and quirky casts of characters will be rooting for Team Lee or Team Fox as Hattie decides if love, like most music, is meant to fade or last forever"
Bet On It by Jodie Slaughter (KU)
Tag line: Bingo nights, Southern heat, and steamy, small-town vibes.
Set in the fictional town of Greenbelt, South Carolina, this adult romance brings all the Southern sweetness you could want—along with a bit of spice.
Aja and Walker meet during a bingo game and find themselves unexpectedly drawn to each other while confronting their pasts and mental health struggles with honesty and vulnerability.
Why it gives Miley: Rich Southern scenery, multi-generational small town charm, and a love story that rivals Miley & Jake (without the "hello drama")
Why it gives Miley: I'll give you this much it's set in the south and there are horses. The rest is just spice, but hey (hayyy) sometimes that's all a girl needs.
Southern Comfort by Natasha Madison (KU)
Tagline: Ranch life, enemies-to-lovers, and a second shot at love in a small Southern town.
Olivia runs a horse boarding facility with a chip on her shoulder and zero patience for Casey, the cocky cowboy who keeps pushing her buttons. But when they’re forced to work together, all that tension starts to turn into something hotter than a July afternoon in Georgia.
This is pure contemporary cowboy charm: rodeos, hay bales, and a spicy slow burn.
Alexa, play He Could Be the One by Hannah Montana.
*This book is 2nd in a collection of similar interconnected stories.
A Cowboy State of Mind by Jennie Marts
Tagline: A tender cowboy romance where a big-hearted rancher and a wounded heroine find love—and healing—on horseback.
Scarlett returns to her Colorado hometown after a bad relationship, looking for peace. But peace comes in the form of Jace, a charming cowboy who runs a horse rescue ranch. As Scarlett learns to trust again, the two discover they might just be the missing piece in each other’s lives.
Why its giving Miley: While technically not set in the South, the vibes are there—sun-drenched pastures, rugged charm, and a love story that unfolds at a gentle, healing pace. Its giving Miley & Travis (my personal OTP <3)
The Summer of Everything by Julian Winters
Tag line: Books, sunshine, and self-discovery in a chill SoCal summer.
Wesley Hudson is trying to figure out what comes next after high school—while working at a bookstore, managing a massive crush on his best friend, and trying to save his favorite local business.
Though technically set in California, this heartfelt and funny YA coming-of-age novel carries all the warmth, heart, and personal growth of a Southern summer story.
Why it gives Miley: While maybe not the traditional "southern Miley," we couldn't have Miley without SoCal, a heartfelt coming of age story, and crushing hard on your best friend. (#MilleyShipper4Lyfe)
